Summer Associate Program 2025

HM, Katashe Solutions, and Braithwate are excited to launch our 2025 Summer Associate Program, a borderless, dynamic, and immersive experience for ambitious college and postgraduate students. We are seeking hard-working, intelligent, and entrepreneurial-minded students who are interested in our firms’ respective specializations. Ideal candidates should have a passion for and expertise in areas such as legal and regulatory consulting, artificial intelligence (AI), digital assets and emerging technology, environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices, and media businesses.  Candidates will work on client projects and internal capabilities development, including with our Supporting Partner Firms Katashe, Asia’s premier Web2 and Web3 hybrid venture builder, and Braithwate, specialist advisors in financial services. 

We value applicants who are eager to engage with and contribute to these dynamic fields. We also value excellence in research and writing, proficiency in media editing, and skills in website development, including SEO. Candidates should have experience with social media marketing and project coordination, and demonstrate meticulous attention to detail.

Program details

Duration

May 13, 2025 – August 16, 2025

Minimum participation: Four weeks

Maximum participation: 14 weeks

Location and Time Zone

Fully remote. You are free to choose your daily work hours that best suit your schedule and lifestyle. Whether you prefer to align your hours more closely with US or Asia business times, we leave that decision to you. However, you will be expected to be frequently available for video calls from 8 to 10 am and 8 – 10 pm EST to accommodate our Asia-based clients.

Compensation

Each Summer Associate will be awarded an honorarium for their contributions to the program.

Performance Assessment

Each Summer Associate’s performance will be evaluated at the end of the program. Based on this evaluation, participants will receive a letter of recommendation from at least one of the firms, reflecting the participant’s performance and contributions.

Requirements: Applicants are required to have access to a secure, dedicated computer for the duration of the program. This is essential for ensuring the confidentiality and integrity of the work conducted.

  • Interviews: Shortlisted candidates will undergo remote, video interviews to discuss their background, skills, and motivation.

    • Artificial Intelligence at HM: Support HM’s growing AI consulting practice which launched in 2025.
    • Compliance Toolkit Development Project:  Develop a comprehensive compliance toolkit for Web3 startups, providing essential resources and guidelines for navigating regulatory landscapes.
    • Practical legal work experience: Work on various legal and regulatory projects including applications for key licenses for regulated financial institutions.

    • Chris Holland of HM – Chris’ career experience includes serving as General Counsel, COO, and CEO of a regulated financial institution, service on the Board of Directors of a regulated financial institution and company listed on the Main Board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and 11 years in the Capital Markets Department of Clifford Chance.
  • Ask Me Anything sessions with accomplished legal and technology professionals such as:
    • David Neuville – A senior U.S. law equity and debt capital markets lawyer, recognized in Hong Kong on multiple occasions in the Chambers Global Guide to the World’s Leading Lawyers, Chambers Asia, the Asia Pacific Legal 500, IFLR 1000, Euromoney’s Expert Guides and Who’s Who Legal: Capital Markets.  David has been a partner in several major international law firms and has handled matters in the United States, Asia, Europe and Australia.  Currently, David is a Senior Consultant at HM. 
    • Katherine Ng – Katherine is the Founder and Managing Partner of Katashe Solutions (katashe.co), Asia’s premier Web2 and Web3 hybrid venture builder. Since 2017, she has contributed to shaping the blockchain landscape, starting as the Global Marketing Head at Liquid.com, the world’s first cryptocurrency platform regulated by the JFSA, and later as Managing Director at TZ APAC, driving Web3 startup innovation within the Tezos ecosystem. A dedicated advocate for women’s rights in Web3, Katherine serves on the Board of ACCESS, a leading blockchain industry association in Asia. She holds dual degrees in Commerce and Law from the University of Melbourne. 
    • James Nicholls – James is the Managing Director of Braithwate.
